guru guru live in ludwigshafen 1974.

when in 1968 guru guru groove were part of the spearhead of the young kraut explosion they were a few days older than the rest of the movement. mani neumeier and uli trepte had been working in free jazz bands and ax genrich had played country rock for american soldiers in some heidelberg clubs. so their music was better rehearsed and for my ears they always sounded much more conventional than (say) tangerine dream or amon düül with a tendency to being boring old farts disconcerting the stages. but at least they were brilliant most of the time....

in the early seventies, when ax genrich and uli trepte had left the band for more interesting noises, mani neumeier carried on to cultivate corny comic music introducing his kind of kraut cabaret with on and off members of kraan, gila fuck and even cluster. most of this hippie avantgarde trash was more tongue-in-cheek than i could stand and i started to remember to always forget about guru guru. but they were way too importunately, you could never escape their mouldy old jokes...

so way back in 1998, when i first recognized and at least saw this japanese bootleg of a 1974 live concert, i could not stand to spend a third of my monthly salary to add this flannelly thud recording to my collection. to keep and distract you from this same fault i thought i would better share "uncuts" with you. please believe me: you do not need a copy of the original cd edition, a copy of the copy will do...

"uncuts" is an unsatisfying documentation of a live concert guru guru executed on the 29th of june 1974 in ludwigshafen (please do not mess up ludwigshafen and ludwigsburg as the monks did: some of their best tracks were recorded at the tonstudio bauer in ludwigsburg, not somewhere in ludwigshafen as their linernotes tried to tell you) to be broadcasted on the wdr (= westdeutscher rundfunk; west german broadcasting service in cologne) some days later. you are about to hear mani neumeier on manic drums, connie veit on guitars and hans hartmann on bass playing three tracks in fourty minutes: dagobert duck´s 100th birtday, the girl from hirschhorn (not "mirschhorn", as the cover says) and der elektrolurch. have fun, anyway...
