a lucky bag filled with some weird german seven-inch-vinyl-singles from 1955 to 1986

lucky you; i upended my record collection to unearth a good handfill of underdeterminated german sounds from way beyond that noboredy can stand under will for more than two minutes. you will get appsouloudely no kraut or kosmische, but some swabian comedy, some neue deutsche welle (new german values), some underrated jazz from the fifties, some overrated jazz from the seventies, some long forgotten tv and radio advertisements and some happygodelightedly psycho beat for southwestgerman fleamarkets. you can listen to all of the tracks directly, and you can download a .rar file with all of the music and all of the scans and some more way down below.

so here we go-go:

we are starting off with some recordings from the third german jazz festival that probably was celebrated in cologne in 1955, featuring the likes of freddy christman, hans koller, roland kovac and emil mangelsdorff, who ten to fifteen years later left a lot of deep traces in what was to become known as kraut. but here they are as young men playing the bop.

for your listening pleasure side one and two of the record each are documented here seamlessly without any cuts; the line-up of the bands can be found in the scan above.

listen to side one
helmut weglinski quintett - crazy rhythm
johannes rediske quintett - boptical illusion

freddy christmann quartett - passé
hans koller new jazz stars - when you lover has gone

when in 1973 the new duden, the mandatory german wordbook, was released, a seven-inch-vinyl-single featuring the radiospots to accompany the release was given away free to booksellers and stationers all over germany, so they could listen to the adverisements in advance. you can listen to these spots right now with the benefit of hindsight.

 ########################################################

when the neue deutsche welle german new wave swashed away all the schmaltz and schlager (though it did not) a lot of  kosmische krauts and sozialdemokritische hangabouts tried to cash the wave; piefke und pafke, formerly known as arbeitstitel knochen, were two of the more tolerable out-in-siders buy the time boeing. here are both sides of their first single from 1982:

 ########################################################

and here are some more tv and radio spots; i stole this flexi in the advertising department of the stuttgart ibm in 1984. lürzer's archives (with apostrophe and so on and so on) had given it away for free to let the best of spots be heard and so on and so on. listen to pepsi cola, apple, shell, perrier, or die! (please note the oxford comma!)

das einrichtungshaus behr is a southwestgerman company for furniture and design, if i might say at least the least, stationed in the metropolis of wendlingen am neckar. in 1978 they released a record with jazz versions of four suebian folksongs by the stuttgarter jazz-trio and handed it out for free to their business partners. the music is rather solid and moderate; and that is what the einrichtungshaus behr is: not even boring.

the stuttgarter jazz-trio of course were werner lener on piano, ludwig stimmler on bass, and elmar wippler on drums. both sides of the record had two tracks each, but you can listen to them right here seamlessly.

listen to side one
bald gras' ich am neckar
mädele ruck, ruck, ruck

auf'm wase graset d'hase
auf d'schwäb'scheeisenbahne

 ########################################################

i bought this record directly from the drummer (or at least a person who claimed to have been the featurd drummer) on a fleamarket in the neverneverlands between plochingen and nürtingen. it's a wondeful little record i want my jockay to play; it reminds me of a light version of the sparks, early undocumented roxy music, or the 39 clocks if they ever would have dared to play pop music. so it's lvely but coumpletelay unmatured. and nobody knows if rainer rohrmose on drums and dietmar ilg on guitars an lyrics really ever happened.

 ########################################################

and lost burst least we have the stuttgart stand-up comedian willy reichert with hiss version of an alltime horrorscope for scorpios, recorded and released in 1959. the first two seconds of this record are absoloudelay great, but for the rest of it you must be more than familiar with the subtleties of the swabian lainguage and the skorpius zodiac sign. but i guess you are.

randy california singing in german, the suburban power-pop of the conditionz, and the contacts pondering about young girls and their boyfriends: three 7inchers for one hundred and twenty euro anyone?

one hundred and twenty euro; at least that's what the selfearorganized databankateers at discogs say; and now you can judge for beautiful sellfishs: randy california, the conditionz, and the contacts. please note: there is no .zip or .rar file at the bottom of the post: all the featured tracks can be listened to or can be downloaded instantly and directly without any annoying showstoppers; and if you need any of the pictures (and you'll need them, of course) you are asked to download them separatedlay onebuyworne.

soulet ustart with the contacts:

this little power pop gem was released in 1980 and seems to be the only release the contacts ever came off with. andy janik played the rhythm guitar and sang lead, marc ford played lead guitar and sang some backing vocals, andy park sat in on drums, and ian sandy handled the bass guitar.

as far as i know all of themfour got lost in the process of growing old and left without a trace. meanwhile back on discogs this little 7incher changes hands for some fifty euro or more.

the contacts - young girls
the contacts - boyfriends

sickoundlay we're couming up with the first single of the carliforniaint conditionz released in 1983 in a cheap white cover with a big hole in it. morest of the vary few information about the early statues of this band can be found on discogs again where this little 7incher changes hands for some 70 euro for whatevereason, so i'm not gonna repeat it. i'm not gonna repeat it. i'm not gonna repeat it.

so listen:

the conditionz - she's so suburban
the conditionz - house divided

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

and thirstley you'll get randy california of spirit with a little 7incher you may find in the cutoutdustbin of your local record shop for some 20 cent or you may find it never at all paying his tribute to the german rockpalast audience in 1982; and you can all go sing a=long.

randy california - grosser herrscher
randy california - magic wand

...ain't that's it for now...

punk rock rarities volume 2; featuring the users, the maniacs, the art attacks, the dole, satan's rats, front, the dyaks, the squad, the shove and the satellites

as most of these 7inchers have been part of my record collection for more than thirty years now i never expected this 1996 punk rock rarities compilation to really be kind of rare; but funny enough: it is. all of these tracks have been recorded some time between 1977 and 1982, all of them had been released on independendent 7inchers or somewhere else, and some of them have been forgotten in the process of growing old. and all of them are a lot of fun to liszten to.

and as you might have expected the mighty discogs is offering some additional information on all of the artists involved; and here is what you can listen to right now and here:

01 - the users - kicks in style
02 - the users - dead on arrival
03 - the maniacs - chelsea '77
04 - the maniacs - i ain't no legend (listen directly in your browser)

06 - the art attacks - neutron bomb
07 - the dole - new wave love
08 - satan's rats - you make me sick (listen directly in your browser)
09 - satan's rats - louise
10 - front - system
11 - front - queen's mafia
12 - the dyaks - gutter kids
13 - the dyaks - it's a game (listen directly in your browser)
14 - squad - £8-a-week
15 - squad - red alert
16 - the shove - raise the roof tonite
17 - the shove - violence
18 - the shove - pigs (listen directly in your browser)
19 - the shove - nutters of york
20 - the satellites - vietnam
21 - the satellites - lucy is a prostitute
22 - the satellites - i fell in love with a lesbian

keeping in mind that you might want to burn a cd and the house down i added some ten minutes of contrasterrating and unexpertertatelay fitting noise to add it all up to a 70minute bloodbathe: recorded in 1972 in hamburg here are peter brötzmann on saxes, han bennink on drums, fred van hove on piano, misha mengelberg on piano, steve lacy on soprano, albert mangelsdorff on trombone, and paul rutherford on trombone as well.

four semi=obscure 7inchers i found in my record collection: gene williams from 1968, the jets from 1973, the jars from 1980, and the modernaires from 1981

yes, i was digging in the graveyard late at night, and look what i found: four seven-inch-vinyl-singles most of you have neverever seen or heard: and now you can find out if there is a reason (no, there's no real reason) to hunt them down on discogs or ebay. i transmuted the crickcracklesandpops of the annalocked vinyl to some godlike mp3s this afternoof, cramming and stuffing both sides of each into one long track (each, as well), so that you can listen to the aside and the beside almost seamlessly in one rutsch right here on this sight of the everning; and if you want to downlord the tracks to your heartdrive please be sure to save the pictures as well as there are no .zip or .rar files as you might have expectered.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

so let us start with the one and only known sevenincher (and their only known release as well) of the jets from 1973:

reportedly the jets were a one-off drunk-afternoon project created by ken elliott, kearon o'conner and mike craig to outglitter all that sweet stuff that slayed the charts in those days, and that's what they did. the a-side is a forgotten glam=gem, while the b-side is a coumpletely different sounding tongue-in-cheap-version of hatfield and the north or even van der graaf generator.

a: yeah!
b: rusty corinthian pillar

listen to the jets glammering it all out!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

next up next is gene williams, a southafrican singer and songwriter, who is living in germany since he liberated the black forest from the fascist scum in 1945. he has recorded and released a lot of schlagersoul records since the early sixties, sometimes using the wonderful pseudonym eugene william birkenstock.

this=here record is easily one of the best records he recorded allthroughout the years, with a dieter reith combo that never again rocked like this, and the lyrics are a wonderful mishmatch of german and british blabla. great.

a: my soul is black
b: rock'n roll in london town

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

not all too much is known about the jars; they were mik dow on guitars and vocals, armin hammer on bass guitar, gary nervo on farfisa, and marc time on drums. they released two singles in 1980 and then got lost in the process of growing old.

but this one=here is cool: a rather tame and nice a-side, followed by a version of psycho originally recorded by the sonics in 1965 in a hyped-up b-52s manner and then going completely over the top with the third track and stopping it appsoruptley before it starts getting a psychoboredelic jam. wunderbra!

a: start rite now
b: psycho / electric third rail

listen to the jars from 1980

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

finally we got the modernaires from wales if i may guess. in the early eighties they released some records on the illuminated label, frickled around in some obscure bands like brodyr-y-fin and the likes, and they were never heard of again and lived happily until you died, as far as my ears are inwolfed.

but this little sevenincher, though corenpleateley worned=out and cricracrockeling all the time, is a wonderful tribute to the groundbreaking work of the early soft machine. starting with a little missapt quotation of a kinks reminiscence the wilde flowers had been using in the midsixties, and ending all out in some poetic kevinayeresk freeform noise for the afternoon show down in middle earth. take some drugs, baby.

a: we did it again
b: and again

listen to the modernaires from 1981
