still scorned, dissdorned and sporned: squeeze by the velvet underground

most of the "real" velvet underground fans are way too snobbish to like or even at least accept the wonderful and completely underrated squeeze as the fifth album (or sixth, if you like to count max's kansas city as the fifth album) by the velvet underground. it was recorded by doug yule in london in the fall of 1972 with a little help from deep purple drummer ian paice and some unknown background singers.

for your listening pleasure i augmented and expanded my copy of the semi-legal cd-version of this album with some interrelated bonustracks i found in my collection. you can listen to some of the tracks directly right here, and you can download the complete version as mp3 or flac at the bottom of this post.

minhinihalism going to the maximistress: the 1965 execution of the day of niagara by john cale, tony conrad, angus maclise, la monte young and marian zazeela plus some bonustracks you might not be aware of

released some twenty years ago this cd of the real dream syndicate has become a rather rare item, and i thought you might like to hear it again or eventually at long least last lost lust et cetera. for your listening pleasure i added some bounustracks i found in the dark holes of my collection, and so it's allha great minimaniacinihihilism wartsoever.

the real dream syndicate in 1965 of course were john cale, tony conrad, angus maclise, la monte young, and marian zazeela: they were very young artists following a new vision of how art might want to be: mod, punk, pop, proto-psych, avantgarde: you name it, and they took it and they got it and they interreversed it and they made it better or wurst. very nice; and of course you know all about them of course. i don't need to tell yer cuz eyema supafellord.

for your listening pleasure and for you to build and burn a nice cd you can lay back to relax and listen comfourtabely at home i added some faulty minuettes of bonustracks you might know or love or leave or no or not. burt lets start with the real stuff:

01 - day of niagara (recorded in 1965 et cetera et cetera)

and now for the bonustracks:

 here we go-go!

02 - angus maclise - cloud asylum (recorded in 1966; from the cd up from the archives by gerard malanga)

03 - john cale and tony conrad - after the locust (1968) (listen directly)
04 - john cale, angus maclise and terry jennings - terry's cha-cha (1967)

05 - john cale and angus maclise - hot scoria (1964 or 1965)

06 - john cale - wall (1969, from the cd-version of vintage violence) (listen directly)

07 - jon gibson - terry's g dorian blues (probably 1992; in good company with/of la monte young) (listen directly)

08 - la monte young - 89 VI 8 C. 1:42-1:52 AM Paris Encore (probably 1990; from the tape tellus #24)

ivan kral: a very enjoyable collection of rare tracks based on the 1992 album native, featuring patti smith, john cale, iggy pop, PBCH and other friends and relatives

godspeed, ivan kral. his death was untimely, as every death is. let us celebrate his life with some of the music he recorded in the seventies, eighties and nineties of the last century and keep his name alive. without him punk would have turned the other way. here is some john cale influenced melancholia for you, some stooges handclapping, some latelayed bowie and a lot of ivan kral.

first of all we got the band native with their eponymous album. native were ivan kral on vocals and guitars, zbynek pavlicek on bass, and mackenzie brown on drums. the album was recorded in late october 1992 at the monongo studios in berlin and was released on the german zensor label the same year.

here we go-go:

01 - cry for more (listen directly)
02 - cat walk
03 - alive (tell me) (listen directly)
04 - break down her silence
05 - spirit
06 - crazy about you
07 - turn to me
08 - photographed
09 - slow down (listen directly)
10 - don't have answers
11 - way down below
12 - give me love

second of all this is followed by four songs from the 1995 album nostalgia featuring ivan kral on vocals and guitars, andrej seban on guitars and keyboards, emil frátrik on drums, andmarek minárik on bass:

13 - perfect moon (ivan kral on strings, andrej seban on guitar, john cale on piano, and patti smith sings) (listen directly)

14 - rains again (written by ivan kral and patti smith)

15 - speak to me (written by ivan kral and iggy pop)

16 - ahah (featuring david koller, PBCH, robert kodym and michal dvorák) (listen directly)

third of all there are three songs released as a maxi-cd complementating the album nostalgia in 1996:

17 - shoes (taken from the album)
18 - no one (live in prague, october 1995)
19 - dancing barefoot (live in prague, october 1995) (listen directly)

force of all are two songs ivan kral recorded live as a part of the iggy pop band on the 26th of september 1980 at the bookie's club in detroit; the show omitting these two tracks has been released halflegally on easy action in 2018, the missing tracks can only found on the lust for life bootleg and here:

20 - hassels
21 - louie louie / hang on sloopy (listen directly)

and fifth but not least we got a live version of one of the many songs ivan kral wrote for the patti smith group:

22 - pumping my heart (bottom line, new york, 27th of december 1975) (listen directly)

vengeance - the jesus and mary chain recorded live in 1985 and 1992

three different dates, three different venues, three very different audiences, and three different versions of the living end. the jesus and mary chain live in concert in 1992 and 1985.

for your listening pleasure these three performances of JAMC included on the cd vengeance released in italy in 1992 are not cut into little pieces but are left as three long pieces of nicenoise as they had been executed. you can listen directly with leftclick or download the tracks to your hard drive with rightklick; there is no rar-file, so you have to save the pictures if you want to keep them. you know how to. and by the way, there is some obscure material by JAMC to be found in this=here blog: get to hear them live in amsterdam 1985 including two versions of fuck, and listen to the mini-cd that was included in an italian book in 1992.

the cover says that the first seven tracks on this cd have been recorded live in new york in 1992 (most probably between the 20th and 25th of september), and this may be true or not. the same seven tracks have been published on the strange fruit live cd claimed as having been recorded in sheffield on the 28th of september 1992. and nobody knows if it really happened.

01 - catch fire
02 - blues from a gun
03 - head on (listen directly)
04 - reverence
05 - far gone and out
06 - half way to crazy (listen directly)
07 - sidewalking

tracks 08 to 21 most probably were recorded in new york in 1985 at two different dates and at two different locations. there is no evidence when where why, but at least it is rather unlikely they would play the same song three times at one evening.

08 - in a hole
09 - mushroom
10 - inside me
11 - just like honey (listen directly)
12 - inside me (listen directly)
13 - it's so hard
14 - you trip me up

15 - inside me (listen directly)
16 - taste of cindy
17 - taste the floor
18 - the hardest walk
19 - the living end
20 - mushroom (listen directly)
21 - never understand
